About

Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine

Prescriptions from £60

Chinese herbal medicine focuses on restoring the balance of the body’s life energy or Qi, to maintain health and treat diseases and other conditions.

There are thousands of herbs used in Chinese medicine and one formula may contain up to 20 different types of herbs. This allows consultants to blend formulas to match each patient exactly, rather than having a standard formula for the particular medical condition.

The consultant can increase the effectiveness of the herbs through bespoke tailoring throughout the course of treatment. This generates faster results and minimises side effects.

Dosage & Instructions

Drink 150ml of the herbal medicine twice daily after meals. Avoid drinking water directly after taking the medicine as this may dilute the formula. If you find the medicine is bitter, add some honey or sweetener. Herbal prescriptions can be provided in the following different forms which allow the consultant to tailor the prescription to best suit the patient and to fit in with their lifestyle; Herbal tonicRaw herbs are selected and prepared in-store, they are then boiled in water under pressure to produce the concentrated herbal tonic. To prepare, pour 150ml into a tea cup and warm in the microwave for 60-90 seconds.

Alternatively, warm the liquid in a stainless steel pan for a few minutes, being careful not to let it boil. Return the remaining medicine to the fridge to ensure it stays fresh. Raw herbsRaw herbs are selected for a formula but have not been boiled for the patient. The herbs are placed into small bags, each bag being a one-day supply.

To prepare; empty the bag of herbs into a stainless steel saucepan (avoid aluminium and iron saucepans as these may react with the herbs and reduce the effectiveness of the formula). Allow to soak for 15 minutes then drain and rinse.

Add 700ml of cold water to the saucepan, then add the herbs and boil for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat and simmer for a further 15 minutes to produce 1.5 cups of liquid. Carefully pour the liquid and drink the first cup reserving the remaining liquid and the cooked herbs. In the evening add the remaining liquid to the herbs and add another two cups of water and bring to a boil. Drink one teacup of herbal medicine and discard the cooked herbs.

Powdered herbs

This concentrated powdered formula may be prescribed when a patient is in the recovery stage or is travelling and cannot carry bottles of herbal medicine or prepare the raw herbs. This form is quick and easy to make and can be stored easily. To prepare, add one tablespoon of powdered herbs to a teacup, and add a little honey or water to create a smooth paste. Add boiling water to the paste, stir and drink as soon as the liquid has cooled enough.

Bespoke tablet formula

This form of administration is designed for patients that cannot drink the liquid form, powdered form, or cook the herbs from home. They are ideal for people that are travelling or have a busy lifestyle. Bespoke tablets or capsules can be made following your unique prescription. The prescription will take between 7-14 working days to be produced and we will notify you when they are ready for collection.
