About

Our experts will ask you questions to gain a greater understanding of your lifestyle in order to identify what the illness is, the causes of your illness, and how it can be best treated. To identify any imbalances within the body a consultant will examine the surface of the tongue and measure the pulses on both wrists. The colour, shape, and odour of the tongue will provide critical information so that an accurate diagnosis can be made. In addition, the patterns and the strength of the pulses on both wrists will also help form the diagnosis.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a broad concept of ancient medical practices that have continued to evolve and expand over thousands of years. The most well-known concepts of TCM are the theory of Yin & Yang, Qi, and Blood.

Yin and Yang are the two opposite or conflicting fundamental forces that are in a constant state of flux. Often described as water & fire, cold & hot, night & day, and slow & fast. Yin is feminine, soft, dark, moon, passive, and water. Yang is male, hard, light, sun, active and fire. Yin is more influential with the winter solstice while Yang is more influential with the summer solstice. Qi - Also known as life energy, flows along internal pathways called meridians throughout our bodies. It is If there is an imbalance in our Qi we will be more likely to experience health problems due to Qi Deficiency. This causes Low energy, fatigue, sleeping problems, illness, low immunity, and emotional disorders.

A Qi deficiency can manifests as pain and distention, it is dull, cramping or colicky. Blood - In TCM blood is the fundamental element for the formation of skin, nerves, bones, muscles, and organs. It nourishes the body, moistens body tissue, and circulates the organs, to ensure that they do not dry out. Static blood may be caused by either long-term Qi stagnation or by traumatic injury, including surgery. A Blood Deficiency causes headaches &migraines, dizziness, poor memory, pale lips, nails, tongue, & face. A lack of strength, weak tendons, anxiety, and displaced sleep are some of the possible symptoms.

Pulse Diagnosis

The practitioner will feel the pulses on both wrists to determine the condition of your Qi, Blood and internal organs. They will note the speed, strength, rhythm, and shape. A normal pulse is smooth and calm, reflecting good Heart Qi and Blood.A slippery pulse may indicate dampness, or pregnancy. A sinking pulse is indicative of illness deep in the interior of the body.A stringy pulse is common for a person with severe pain or a liver disorder. Symptoms of a wiry pulse include depression, irritability, and the tendency to anger easily. A rapid pulse with irregular intermittence, indicates excessive heat, stagnation of Qi & Blood, or phlegm.

Tongue Diagnosis

Tongue diagnosis reflects the state of specific organs and your body condition.A tongue with a thin white coating, teeth marks or pale with red spots indicates a QiDeficiency. A red tongue or one with a yellow coating tells of heat in the body. A swollen tongue or one with a greasy white coating reveals dampness. If your tongue is a deep purple with black spots you may have blood stasis. A thin white coating and a red tip of the tongue indicates Qi Stagnation. A red tongue with a greasy yellow coating shows you have Damp Heat. A swollen tongue with a thick white coating reveals a Yang deficiency. If you have a Yin deficiency your tongue may be cracked, red and with little or no coating. A pale tongue with little or no coating reveals internal cold or a Blood deficiency.
